Thomas Van Aken, M.D.

Thomas Van Aken, MD is originally from Bronx, New York. His journey into the realm of healthcare began with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Manhattan College, where he honed his understanding of the human mind and behavior. Eager to further his education and pursue his passion for helping others, he obtained a second bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Touro College, solidifying his commitment to a career in healthcare.

Dr. Van Aken's pursuit of medical excellence led him to Tampico, Mexico, where he earned his medical degree and was subsequently recognized and awarded by the state of New York. Throughout his educational journey, he remained deeply involved in his community, serving as an auxiliary police officer with the New York City Police Department during his college years.

Before starting his clinical work Dr. Van Aken's passion for academia led him to serve as a part-time professor at New York Medical College, where he imparted his knowledge and wisdom to aspiring healthcare professionals. Dr. Van Aken embarked on a distinguished career spanning over three decades in private practice north of New York City. Specializing in geriatrics, dementia, and general psychology, he became known for his expertise in treating a range of mood disorders, anxiety, OCD, depression, and eating disorders, offering compassionate care to countless patients and their families.

Recently, Dr. Van Aken embarked on a new chapter in his life, partially retiring and relocating to Georgia with his beloved wife. In their free time he and wife enjoy exploring the great outdoors, kayaking, backpacking, and RVing across the country. Dr. Van Aken has two sons that live in Decatur, Georgia and Oregon.
